about

Recorded in a shack with a roaring fire (audible at points on the recording, adding a sprinkling of vinyl-sounding crackle and hiss), these songs sound antediluvian, down to the unexpected dip taken by the melody of “Gold Mine” when it reaches its chorus.

In fact, all are new compositions by Jones. Her narrators are orphans, or have drunken fathers; at the most extreme, one has a run-in with Satan.
